Style Guide: 3 Ways to Wear Pearls with Your Daily Look

Pearls have long been coveted as a precious piece of jewellery, to be worn on special occasions. Here in Australia, where casual is king, you may think – is there a place for pearls as part of your wardrobe?

My opinion is: most definitely! Not only is it the perfect companion for a special occasion, I think it works just as well in your daily fashion. The secret is to choose the right piece of jewellery with the right clothes, and it’s simpler than you think. It doesn’t have to cost a fortune either. What I love about pearls is that they elevate what we wear, be it a t-shirt or a business suit.

So here’s a guide to get you started with including pearls in your daily life.

Look 1: Monday morning office board meeting

It’s the day of your all-important office board meeting. You want to look sharp, well put together, professional. You understand the importance of using your wardrobe as armour to help you win that vote of confidence. Nothing says well put together like pearls can.

Look 2: School drop off / pick up run

The school run is one of those activities that can be a bit tricky to dress for. If you are like me, you want to be comfortable, but not get caught looking like a slob, just in case you have to get out of your car to chat to the teacher or other parents.

Something fuss-free that you don’t have to think about is what you need, especially when you’re out of ideas and running late (anyone else or is it just me?). My answer: Japanese Akoya or white South Sea pearl earring studs. Throw them on with anything and cancel out the slob vibe immediately.

Look 3: Casual weekend chic

Ah, the weekend. Time to relax and have some fun. Weekends are for play, and believe it or not, the right pearl jewellery will put you in a fun mood. On weekends I like going for more unusual pieces – baroque pearl earrings, adjustable necklaces, an assortment of coloured pearls on a wire necklace – the options are endless. Simply wear them with a pair of jeans, a simple top, and you won’t go wrong.
